Blog 2: Coverage of Minorities in the Media

In conclusion, I think the coverage of minorities are portrayed, sometimes, more in a negative way or sometimes Caucasian Americans receive more significant or important coverage rather than minorities. Some people are likely to believe the attitudes they see of minorities because that's how the media covers them repeatedly, but some perceptions of minorities are wrong. For example, According to Helium.com, most blacks are portrayed as criminals in the media studied by Van Dijk; black crime and violence dominates issues in ethnic coverage. But in this chart and graph below, there are more Caucasian Americans in crimes/violence than any minority.
I think the news could offer more diversity as far as significantly material. This chart and graph below is an example of public perception of reality/ public agenda. Public agenda in the media is basically when the media bring attention to certain stories and topics with a headline, placement of story, size, use of photo or video, etc. That attention may influence the readers'/viewrs' awareness about those topics.
Here is a seven day coverage of minorities in the Florida Times-Union newspaper.
